There are many different medical, social, economic or cultural circumstances which put couples under the most intense pressure to produce a child of a specific gender. Scientists have identified thousands of health problems where genes play a part and many gender-related medical disorders can be passed from parent to child.

Sex selection may be performed for medical reasons to avoid sex-linked diseases such as hemophilia and Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy, and is acceptable in many countries such as the United Kingdom, USA and Australia.

However, gender selection for family balancing purposes is a very controversial issue. Should a couple be free to choose the sex of their child? For some the answer is yes because it is a fundamental right, while for others it is a threat to society.

What is Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis? (PGD) is a medical procedure which allows embryos to be tested for gender-related genetic conditions, prior to being placed in the womb, giving the best opportunity to select the healthiest embryos and simultaneously choose the gender of your baby.

Why Our Gender Selection?
Welcome to the Andrology Institute of America. the world leading fertility center for andrological procedures, though we do everything possible to address all of our patients' needs and cure their difficulties for the male and/or female infertility. We offer a number of procedures, and among those is the plan for family balancing. The process has been very successful even with infertility issues and has been utilized by us for the last 25 years. The sperm sorting process is a modified sedimentation method, which can increase the chances of having a male or female child. This is done by separating sperm with the X chromosome (female) or Y chromosome (male), and inseminating with whichever sample is desired. Therefore, gender is selected prior to conception.
"Family Balancing" is the title which is the most frequent indication for gender selection, when one gender is already represented in the family unit and the other gender is desired. However, in other cases, indications may be for parents who are carriers of various genetic diseases who may want to reduce the risk of having genetically affected children and can choose to have babies of the gender associated with a less severe form of the disease. We are simply the best in what we do and can take care of all of your needs.
Sperm Sorting and IUI
In the first option, sperm manipulation as a means for preconception sex determination is carried out to increase the percentage of sperm of the desired gender used for intrauterine insemination or In Vitro Fertilization. This highly sophisticated and efficient modality utilizes our laboratories, which provide separated sperm specimens using their technology.
Embryo Screening with PGD
The new scientific advances offer virtually guaranteed results. Recent advances in the fields of genetics, genetic diagnosis, embryo biopsy and preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) have opened up a new world of opportunity for couples interested in achieving a healthy pregnancy. As a result of safe new techniques developed to allow physicians and scientists the opportunity to study the genetic well being of an embryo PRIOR to its return to the womb, procedures such as guaranteed sex selection have become a reality.
Success Rate
Our success rate with gender selection using the modified sedimentation method employed at our Institute by Prof. Zavos is approximately 86% for male and 74% for female selection. Our statistics are among the best in the field of gender selection and have been for the last 25 years. Meanwhile, the success rate for gender selection using the IVF/PGD method is 100% for male or for female selection.
