Service Description

Our staff under the direction of Prof. Zavos have developed the initial techniques that involves injecting immature sperm in the form of round spermatids directly into a woman's egg similar to the intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) but instead using round spermatids (ROSI) . It was first used in the 1990s, resulting in the birth of several babies, including one in the UK (Susan Louise Oxburgh, born in 1996). However, it was banned by the UK HFEA, Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority, because of concerns about potential genetic abnormalities in these immature sperm, as well as, low success rates. Today, our team has refined the technique and made it much more efficient yielding higher success rates and producing healthy children.
